The importance of a passion project

Updated: May 24, 2021

Taking time to rejuvenate, practice self-care, and doing things that hold value to us is more important than ever.

Many know by now that I am the creator and host of a creative arts podcast entitled Creative Peacemeal. The idea for the podcast came from my desire, my need, to find peace, and serenity during uncertain times. For me, that became wanting to expand on my blog (which I don’t post here as often as I’d like) and creating a platform to learn more about other artists and uplift them and their art.

If you’ve had a chance to enjoy an episode, or two, or even the entire series so far, I am greatly appreciative. The podcast grows in listeners with every episode. While I don’t know if it will ever reach the status of such podcasts like Lore in sheer numbers, I am grateful for what I do have, and moreover, what the podcast had given me.

The podcast has given me the opportunity for personal and professional growth as I learn more about the different creative arts, and artists, as well has helping me connect more with the music therapy community of which I am a part. The podcast has given me a sense of purpose and worth outside of my daily work. Although the podcast has kept me busy, I’ve found more peace in my life as it’s offered me a chance to disconnect from stressors as I focus on tasks which I can control, manage, and succeed. It allows me to stretch my creative mind as I do things I’ve never done before such as learning higher level sound editing and production, or making tee shirt designs from scratch (available here).

All this to say that having something to look forward to outside of your daily work, whether it’s as involved as a podcast, or as simple as drawing or listening to your favorite music playlist, it’s important to connect to what you love and reconnect with who you are in this ever changing world.

Thanks for listening.
